I bought my Sony DSC H50 last year. It has a 15X optical zoom, 9.1 megapixels, special nightshot mode to shoot pictures in complete darkness.
I'm not a professional, but I think it's a wonderful camera. The only problem I have is taking good night-time indoor photos using flash. Hope I will get better at it with some practice and expert advice.
Also, I've never tried the manual mode because I'm a novice and I can't figure out what is what.
So, usually I stick to the automatic mode.
Thanks for the submission Vikas.
The Sony DSC H50 was released in early 2008. It's a sophisticated camera that verges on a true digital SLR.
The manual mode is well worth trying out. I'd recommend using aperture priority first (you set the aperture, and the camera sets an appropriate shutter speed).
This will give you a feel for the effects of depth of field. Used correctly this can really make an impact on your photography.
Then explore shutter priority (you set the shutter speed and the camera selects an appropriate aperture).
Lastly, have a look at this article on understanding exposure to give you some more tips.
