Last summer I visited the South Downs (in southern England). We were going round an ornamental garden and I was taking all the usual photos of the flowers, and then I noticed a fallen tree.
This tree had really gnarled bark which I thought made interesting patterns. My thoughts were that this would make a good black and white picture, but I actually took the photo in colour.
Later on I converted the photo to black and white using Photoshop Elements, and I added a slight diffuse glow too – in order to soften the picture a little.
Well done Kate for spotting a shot that would look good in black and white. And well done for taking the photo in colour and then converting it.
Interesting use of the diffuse glow filter – it really does soften the photo. For those who would like to try this for themselves, the diffuse glow filter can be found in Photoshop by going to Filter; Distort; Diffuse Glow. a new window will pop up, and here you can make adjustments to the amount of glow.
Thanks Kate for your submission.
